I wanted to share a new book with the community. It is a personal story, as well as a story of leaving the LDS church.
The LDS culture has a suicide ratio double that of the rest of the world, and some counties in Utah and Idaho are 4x the national average.
This book discusses why.

I am sorry, Douglas Spotted Eagle. I wish that had not happened to you.
I commend the review on Amazon by S. Richardson for anyone who might like to know a bit more before deciding to buy the book (or kindle).

Thank you.
There are some very kind reviews on the Amazon page, the book hit #4 in its category this morning.

The book is free for Prime members.

During the writing of the book, I spoke with many parents, some still a couple but most now single or re-married that have lost a son or daughter (mostly sons) to LDS suicide.

It is heart-wrenching. Everyone has a hard story in this life, everyone has hardships. But these parents...
Their strength to be able to speak with me, my ability to understand their stories, but most of all, the flash-realization of the many, many ways we'd made mistakes based on LDS teachings, was a huge contributor to why we were all crying together.
I don't hate the LDS church. But I deplore what they teach, what they expect of our children.

There have (thus far) only been two hateful letters since the book has come out; one was really angry that I "believed the false stories and fabricated evidence that JS was a polygamist" and the other was "Your son died because you didn't keep him close enough to the Lord."

Stunning stupidity supporting the cavalier statements of the brethren.

The bastardly backwards LDS thinking that kills children all up and down the Mormom/Wasatch suicide belt is alive and well.

Maybe it's just a tiny bit worse for wear after John Dehlin Day, which could be today.

Only because I want to keep it as real as possible, the "Suicide Belt" (CDC's definition, not my own), isn't just around the Wasatch Front. It extends into virtually every LDS-heavy county in the intermountain west. In the book there is a county-by-county map, showing where suicide ratios are well above the national average.

Two interesting keys; Several of the leadership positions at CDC have been/are LDS. General Authority James Mason allegedly kept the religion quotient out of suicide studies.
Second; The Church has sponsored/paid for studies to specifically aim away from any LDS influence in the exceptionally high suicide ratio.

In the book, I talk about how my bishop (when my son took his own life) was a high-school janitor who could barely add two plus two. He's an idiot. I purport that one of the contributing factors to LDS depression, divorce, suicide is that their leadership are predominantly lay people with little education, charged with counseling and supporting the fragile emotional self of the membership.

LDS Emotionalism seems like it helps to drive the Mormonism machine.

There is no doubt that the LDS faith plays on emotionalism, which in turn drives Mormonism, which drives perfectionism.

"if you're LDS, you can be perfect" (according to scripture and GA's).

That's the entire tenet of Mormonism, the emotion of "belonging." Most Mormons are lost little sheep that need to be in a "flock" to be "valued."

The entire "ignore science, what does your gut tell you" handed off to (mostly) uneducated people, plays on their lightly experienced emotions.

My sincere condolences to you BOD. Nobody likes to bury their own children. Its not supposed to work that way is it? So much for the toxic influences of controlling organized religions that get so many people to give up the goodness that is inherent in their own lives without their informed consent. Like you, I can't make up any legitimate excuses for behaviors like that, and commend you for your writing.

Thank you for your kind words.
Only yesterday, I received word that one of my young nieces took her own life. She'd had a short lifetime filled with LDS-related pain. Drugs, young sex, condemnation.
The day before, there were two LDS youth suicides in the newspaper.
Since 1969, when the church was first made aware of the high LDS-related suicide ratio, approximately 25,000 youth have died. The USA has gone to war over far less.
The LDS church went to war in 1976....a war to hide the truth.
The quest for "perfect" and the condemnation for natural order (masturbation) is killing our youth.
What will it take to make a change in the LDS fabric?

Jesus was "close to the Lord." It didn't save him.
Abinadi in the Book of Mormon was "close to the Lord." It didn't save him.
Wasn't Joseph Smith believed to have been "close to the Lord"? It didn't save him.
Being close to the Lord is very lovely, I'm certain;
but it doesn't add to one's longevity.
Many Buddhists have been close to their Lord Buddha before cremating themselves.
Bad things happen to good people just as good things happen to bad people.
It isn't "God's fault." :-D It isn't - at least it isn't always - the "sinner's" fault.
It "just" happens. Because of people and circumstances.

Looks to maybe be a hot spot on a Google search.

Scientology might just be a precursor to what may be soon happening to both Mormonism and the Jehovah's Witnesses groups. LifelineUtah has their hands full of new schedules on a steeper learning curve, for sure. Steady as she goes, one little smartphone at a time as this growing correction sees more hungry persons, eager to learn.

The dangers of being a Mormon kid involved in the LDS learned mental illness has another side of bad news attached to the Mormonism (Morridor) corridor.

Suddenly, Utah has a low risk for maybe mediocre dangers all teenagers sometimes may face

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/8656 ... -risk.html

Wow, and the deseret rag is worse than I initially may have first believed!

Generally Utah is high high on the scale of risk for suicide, youth suicide, male suicide and very often (too often) Mormon suicide. The fraudulent LDS church (sm C) just simply screws up your head! It messes with your mind, your emotions, your friends, your family, your life. Some don't think things there are changing fast enough so some other plans are even more quickly being implemented to help and try offset this continued and ongoing crisis at hand.

https://www.deseretnews.com/article/865 ... -line.html

Thanks to the added good work of Douglas, no doubt!
