Is this the major problem(s) with LDS today?

I came to the point where I believed that the leadership was aware of the alternate history and chose to continue to present their old version, even though they know it's wrong.

Like the church approved and provided packets of pictures that incorrectly show Joseph Smith translating the Golden Plates. That's not how he did it. A watchman would call that out and correct the misinformation. Because really, what's more likely to lead a person astray, the truth or lies/incorrect truth?

Or Joseph Smith's polygamy. Once upon a time the church leadership (aka Brigham Young and the following prophets) all knew about it. They helped officiate some of it and they inherited his brides after he died. So when did it become so hush-hush? What was this point where following God's law became shameful instead of a thing to shout from the mountains?

And on that polygamy front. It took a long time to officially publish D&C 132 in the book. It was added about a year before Brigham Young died. It missed the first edition of the D&C and even a previous place in the Book of Commandments. In it's place was the old section 101 which denied polygamy and called it a crime. A watchman would have called this out. Brigham was responsible for saying, "STOP THE PRESS!" there's a mistake in the book and we must fix it immediately.

There's a difference between getting more information and getting new and conflicting information. There's a difference between getting more history and getting new history that conflicts with what we had previously been taught by people who should have known the information.

And like some here, I was called out for claiming the truth of the things that the church is now finally admitting. It was anti-Mormon material until it was presented in the new Essays ... well depending on whether the TBM is aware of those essays so neatly tucked behind the boiler in the back of the church web site.

Why don't members of LDS have more transparency with regards to where and how monies are utilized? It is "their" tithes that fund the operation.

WRT Money and transparency.

As a TBM you're giving because you are supposed to give, not because you thought that last year they did an excellent job appropriating your funds in a way that you yourself could not.

These days I think that there are wolves and sheep in the LDS church. Wolves don't want the sheep knowing they are being hunted and picked off. Wolves don't feel guilt or shame for eating sheep. The lack of transparency leaves room to launder some of that money and transfer a portion to the wolves in charge.

Consider the multi-billion dollar mall/investment the church built in SLC. What an opportunity while "revitalizing" the town to also fill some pockets. When Billions move, millions can easily slide around.

Also consider that the LDS Church has been accumulating wealth and assets for many years. The church buildings are on property owned by the organization. The temples are in choice locations. They own store houses and farms and large tracts of land. They own businesses. The less the members know of the wealth the more they are likely to believe their money is needed.

But that's really all speculation.

What organized religions often openly profess is not exactly what you see practiced.

One other thought. Many people will talk about how generous and giving the Mormon people are. I agree that mostly they are very generous. What I've seen though is that very little of what comes in to the church goes out to the widows and orphans and starving. Mostly it goes towards bills and new purchases. If you looked at a list of charities out there, the LDS church is a pretty lousy one wrt what they give out vs what they take in.
