The Book of Mormon has a number of Old World animals, such as horses (not tapirs, which were known and were not confused with horses), cows (not buffalo, for Joseph Smith surely could discern a buffalo from a cow), asses (not llamas, the differences are obvious, no one would have confused them), plus some made-up animals. Why weren't cumoms called "domesticated gorillas" or whatever, and cureloms "trained monkeys" or whatever? Anyway, despite the inconsistent ways of naming animals in the Book of Mormon, many animals were left out. Important animals. Animals such as coyotes, buffalo (cureoloms!? ;) ), cougars, moose, elk, pigeons (cumoms!? ;) ), and turkeys.
