When the elders came over to the house in 2014, I ended up writing an article about their visit; in the article I mentioned:

"It was kind of fun fellowshipping with the group; it wasn't all lecture."

One thing we did that "wasn't all lecture" was look at my brass plate with curious engravings on it.

Now, I am pretty sure that some people are going to quit reading at this point thinking that I've lost it.

Others may humor me, believing I'm getting some kind of kick out of telling such a tall tale.

But, the elders know I'm telling the truth. What I'm wondering is, out of all the prospective converts these elders visited, am I the only one who showed them a brass plate with curious engravings on it?

For those interested: I wanted the engraving on my brass plate to represent something out of the 1960s, yea, we're talking a paisley hippie type engraving:

For those of us who are wondering which article I was speaking of in the opening post, it is: http://richkelsey.org/cognitive_dissonance.html

In that article I mention:

"The tension in the room was so high that my dog sensed it and started chewing on his dog bed; which he never does."

For those of us who care: Yukon died 22 days ago. He was the best dog in the world.

There is a picture of him in the article I have a link to above. You can see the love in his eyes.

I have a really interesting story about the days leading up to his passing & the evening he died. I had my hands on him when his spirit left his body. I might write about that some day?

Back to the elders: I'm wondering if they remember Yukon; or, if they sensed the love from me or him. To me the elders seemed cold.

I certainly did not get the impression that they cared about me. And, now, I am pretty sure that I am on a 'do not visit list.' For example: about a year & a half ago, a car pulled up to the house. It went back & forth in the street. I went out to see what was going on. I ended up going for a ride in my car with Yukon; as I drove by the car in question I noticed the man was taking a video of me with his tablet.

Obviously I was thinking: 'What's going on?' I've come to the conclusion that it had something to do with the LDS Church.

I can envision LDS leaders briefing local missionaries, showing them the video & saying: "Whatever you do, stay away from this man."

In my opening post I spoke of a brass plate. I also provided a link to view the plate.
Well, the web-page has changed. I took some pics today.
Here is the link again: http://richkelsey.org/photo_page.html
The theme of the page has changed yet it is all good; Rich

Rich, I am so terribly and dreadfully sorry. You know to trust that love now. May you have peace and joy in your memories, Melanie x

Yukon's a beaut, Rich!

I think Cognitive Dissonance is a human survival trait. We absorb so much, and then we discover some of the things we have discovered over our life's course seem to contradict other things we have discovered. We can either go a little crazy, or acknowledge that there are many inconsistencies in our beliefs, understanding, and behavior, or we can embrace the cognitive dissonance of simultaneously embracing two contradictory beliefs, two inconsistent experiences, or two hypocritical behaviors in our lives. Doing the latter saves time - we don't have to figure out "the ultimate truth" and we don't have to spend a lot of time analyzing our beliefs to the detriment of making a living or doing other things. We don't have to discard either truth or habit we have accepted - we can enjoy the benefits of both! (And suffer whatever detrimental consequences there are.)

Nonetheless, the more I come to understand life and myself, the more accepting I am of the non-dissonant truth. It's not so important for me any longer to believe things that keep me happy, or that don't cause me worry. Now it's okay for me to believe painful things, reject beautiful beliefs (because they have no bearing in reality), and still continue to do things that seem contradictory - preach abstinence from too much alcohol, for example, while now and then go on a bender. :)

Of course we have duties and responsibilities. But life is also (I believe) meant to be enjoyed.

Hi Melanie.
Hi Abinadi.

Four days before Yukon died, he was having a bad day. I was cooking him some breaded fish; trying to get him to eat something. He was no longer eating the sausages I bought for him. The guy quit eating dog food weeks ago.

So, I step outside with a piece of fish and I see Yukon walking straight to the grave I had dug for him. Then, he crawled right in and laid down. I called my minister friend to tell him what just happened and he said, "You need to get him out of that hole."

I said, "I'm not so sure, he wants to be in there."

As far as I know, Yukon did not know that hole even existed. I tried to keep it hidden from him. To me, it seemed like an angel led him there.

Yukon stayed in the hole all night. I have a picture of him in the hole which I took at 3 am. I viewed the image on my computer and thought he was dead.

At about 10:30 the next day he crawled out of the hole. I had four more wonderful days to fellowship with my friend.

Speaking of Cognitive Dissonance and the LDS Faith, why haven't the elders contacted me since I wrote that article?

http://richkelsey.org/cognitive_dissonance.html

I would have changed their names if asked to. In reality, they own their behavior. And, it was really bad. Yet, I understand. They were young.

Come on guys talk to me. I know you read the article; a little bird told me.

Morning Rich,

Such significant and precious experiences with Yukon, Rich. They are very moving. Love to you both.

I suppose the brutal and hard truth is that the elders are not interested and not allowed to be interested and not in a place where they can allow themselves to be interested. Indeed they are in a place where to be interested, more than this even, is forbidden and would be punished. They have to account for all of their time being spent in the specific agenda they can engage in and they are there to teach the core line and not to be taught. This is the nature of the beast. Also those specific elders will be long moved on now. Best outcome is that you planted seeds and I am sure you did.

So are the engravings not a branch and leaves then? That car, I reckon I would have taken the number plate and told the police.

Take Care Xx

About the car, when I realized the person was taking a video of me I was right next to him; he had the tablet in my face. I hit the gas. Looking back, it would have been good to get the license plate. Yet, I reacted in a different way.

About the engraving on the brass plate: I copied a picture from the 1960s of hippy type art. It also comes from ancient Egypt.
