Will my family get notified if I remove my name from Church records? Mormons tend to get REALLY involved when a person resigns from the church. I've been inactive for almost 3 years now and I do not want any trouble.

Also hi, i'm new to this site

Welcome electrohoc!

Officially, they should not get notification, especially if you request it.

Unofficially, people know people and people like to gossip. The bishop and branch pres have to get told. They have to fill callings, turn off home teaching & visiting teaching and other intrusions and they have to make sure that you don't get a new calling. There is the work of removing you from the ward listing, updating your membership record, etc. That's a lot of people to keep quiet. That's a lot of people who might get nosey and talky.

That said, 3 years of inactivity means you will probably make less of a ripple.

And, generally it's to the LDS headquarter's best interest for people to fade away instead of there being a flash at the exit. The more talk from/exposure with those that are resigning, the more people who might ask question and start digging. HQ would rather lull them sheep to sleep with the thought that all is well in Utah.

Hi! Welcome!

You reckon people get involved when someone resigns from the church? Not in my experience or in recent experience of very many people!

It draws a line.

Being inactive can be what makes people be involved with you.

Resignation is very easy in 2017.

If you have personal friends and family who may be stressed by your resignation, it is no more than deciding to be a vegetarian or changing a political party or any other manner of thing that can cause ripples in a family. The administration of the LDS church does not hinder resignation or seek to make it hard in any way whatsoever.

email, 2 mins, 2 to 6 weeks, you are officially out.

Go get what you want, it is easy.

Hi electrohoc, do you want family to be notified of your resignation?

It may soon be the desired preference, Mormonism is stooping to uncanny levels of low when it comes to transparency and honesty and forthcoming truth.
