I grew up in, and had a rocky relationship with TSCC since I was a teenager. I tried going back, getting married in the temple, etc. It didn't last long. The marriage collapsed very quickly, and drew out. I began to see more and more the hypocrisy between the core teachings and the actions of the church as a whole. At first I was thinking it was just "the membership" in SLC because so many were there just because it was "expected". After moving away and seeing the actions of the "upper management", esp recently, I realized I was never going back. Anxiety issues caused procrastination, but after being "inactive" for about 10 years I finally submitted my resignation letter last night via email.

... It's done.

Well, I got the letter acknowledging receipt of my email, saying it was being forwarded to the stake president (whom I have never even met) and Bishop (father of one of my friends in the area). And yet another smack in the face, they have refused to acknowledge my marriage and legal name change. Great way to try to "win me over", let me tell you...
I guess I'll see in a couple days if they respect the no contact request or not...

Hey, Just hang in there! SP/ Bishop is usual procedure. Are you in Ireland, just wondered because country does make a difference and even Stake. The name change is interesting, perhaps it is because the records are in the name you had your Temple marriage in and if you have been inactive since, they may not recognise the latest. I know it is easy for me to say, but this is just a machine, please try as hard as you can not to take any of this personally, they really do not care about making things harder for you so try to save yourself the stress. If the Bishop does contact you, which again is an expected outcome, great when they do not and they don't always, but it may happen, you show him what you are remade of, the very best you. Point is, you have made the massive step, legally you are done now. It's fine. Breathe.

No, Not in Ireland, in the USA, just of Irish decent. I've wanted to visit it for a while, but the closest I've been is London for a few hours.

Thanks. I wish the local "Prepper"/Self-sufficiency group was hosted by someone other than them.

Ahhhhh, I live in hope of having someone on the board this side of the Ocean! Yes, I hate they run the genealogy groups here. And it might be elders turn up at my new choir on Friday. I still have not quite worked out my strategy. One of the songs we sing is 'All the nice girls love a sailor'...quite cheeky lyrics, it might be hilarious for me if they do show. ;)

http://zelphontheshelf.com/tag/podcast/
In 1834, Joseph Smith and members of the Zion’s Camp unearthed a skeleton that was described by Joseph as the remains of Zelph, a renowned white Lamanite prophet who fought in the epic last battles of the Book of Mormon.

Because of the absurdity of the story, as well as its obvious conflict with apologists’ Mesoamerican Book of Mormon model, Zelph is something believing Latter-day Saints may be counseled to “put on the shelf,” along with other historical and doctrinal quandaries. The name “Zelph on the Shelf” pays homage to that concept. Besides, it’s also just really catchy.

This site is run by three post-Mormon millennials who have a love for writing and a little too much time on their hands. All three were once true-blue, dyed-in-the-wool believers who, after sincere and thorough investigation of Mormon truth claims, decided they could no longer remain active members of the LDS church.

A great thing to link in with. They had a camera at the mass resignation in Temple Square a few months back now. It was so moving to watch and hear live all the testimonials and see all the people there.

I am not for defining a new Mormon free life by being an ex of anything, but, it is true, that I would not want to miss this side of it all. :)

Welcome to our community!

Cool. I had some "fun" perusing it last night. How come you can't do something like that there?

Well I mean I can't secretly film a rehearsal of All the nice girls love a sailor, with the elders. There are laws about that here! But, if they come I shall think of you and be laughing so much, I am totally destressed about them coming now, thanks :)

So I got emails from the bishop and stake pres.... Should I still be expecting a physical letter from membership records?

From Bish: (I love how he tries to bring non-related stuff into it to get a response)
Hey Rose! This is [friend's name]'s dad, we met a couple times. I hear you taught the lesson last week in the Prep meeting? Sorry I missed that.
So, I'm also the Bishop of the [Local area] Ward where your records are. I received your recent request to have your name removed, and understand you don't want to discuss ... just do it. So, I will proceed to let them know I touched base with you and to please proceed.
I hope you guys are doing well, and maybe I'll see you at a future Prep meeting. <smile>
Take care!

From SP:
Your request for name removal as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has been processed as per your request. If at any time in the future you desire to attend meetings please know that you are welcome. As you are aware the church has a very active missionary program. If you are inadvertently contacted by the missionaries in the future please know that it is not because your name or records are retained in the church but instead is simply due to the fact that we wish to share the blessings of the gospel with as many persons as possible and that you were randomly contacted. May you be blessed in your future endeavors.
Sincerely,
President [redacted]
[Local area] Stake President

I should still be moving shortly (god buying a house is such an ordeal)... but they will technically know where I am since I'm still friends with the bish's son...

Hi, from my experience and from these emails, which I think are great, I would say you will not receive a physical letter. You can ask either of them for written confirmation if it is important to you. But either way, Congratulations, you have been processed, lol! And all the best for your house move.

Thanks. They changed the type of loan (1 week before we were supposed to close)... but they changed it to a renovation loan, which means we'll have money to fix up the house and make it pretty. Just waiting for the appraiser to say that the job bid (which is like half normal because we are doing the work ourselves) isn't more than the increased value from the work.

Hi Lilrish,

My best guess is that you're done. You may get one more final letter saying "we did it".

Congrats! You faced your demons and won.

Peace
