my family has been in the church since the beginning. I'm 50 now and I don't want to turn my head anymore. Their nice funny little people and none of them would not hurt a fly. Very caring people. I am in a science field so it makes me feel like an idiot that I still go. I hope having others to talk to will help with my transition.

Hi Pathan,

Welcome.

I was talking to a friend of mine about Joseph Smith and his connections to Masonry and my friend mentioned his FIL was a 32 degree mason and I was talking about Smith and at some point it hit me how silly I felt to believe the things I used to believe.

Somewhere along the line one of your relatives is considered a brave pioneer to have left his background and break from the past and join the Mormons. Today we are the pioneers leading the way out.

Peace

True pioneers don't always go by what's popular with certain crowds.

Welcome, Pathan!
I have found that attending church meetings (although I'm sorry to say I haven't gone to one for several months now) helps me to better understand different peoples' world-views, especially where they extend beyond the physical world. So that includes a bit of human psychology and human emotionology. And I like learning about people because they usually have unique experiences or knowledge that is at least interesting, and sometimes something I can use in my life, my relationships, or my writing. So don't feel strange about going to a church; it's another school to learn about human thinking and human relationships. There can even be an advantage in adding someone to your network. Mormons especially seem eager to help some people clean a porch, paint a door, tutor a child (there is a Mormon who teaches music that offered to teach one of our children), and so on. Much to be gained. Not too much to be lost, once you understand the style of persuasion (and dissimulation) that is in play.
Welcome.

Hey minlanire, Thanks for saying thanks regularly, that is nice and it would be cool to hear what you are thinking and journeying through if you'd care to share. :)
