I'm in the process of leaving the church right now. I am 20 years old. I went on a mission for 3 months before leaving because I considered it a waste of time. After I got back I got into the history of the church, and needless to say I learned a lot of new things.

Amazing! Believe it or not, I knew you would be coming. The Mormon church should not drag smart humans down into their tangled net.

A great big warm welcome.

Hi thecurelom,

Welcome and congrats on getting out. How is the family taking it?

Peace

Welcome aboard here. Seems that the more you know about TSCC, the more you don't know....this is a great place to obtain the reassurance and support that your new perspectives and choices are correct for you.

thecurelom!

Welcome to the board.

Wow, walking out on a mission. I can only imagine the cold homecoming that went along with that. Obviously, you had a gut feeling that something was not right.
What I find interesting is that you acted on it: rather than staying in the good ship Mormonism, you abandoned ship.

I would imagine that your whole world is being turned upside-down right now?

My hope is that you can take some comfort in the fellowship of others here, who have gone through the same heart wrenching struggles.

Hi and welcome. It's shocking what information there is out there, isn't it? We're just the lucky ones who were brave enough to seek out that information.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome!

My parents still refuse to accept that I don't believe the church is true. They are using just about every manipulative tool in the book to control me. Luckily while I was on my mission I realized that I can make my own decisions. I don't have to do what everyone else thinks is right.

I have a couple other ex-mo friends, so that helps, but some of my best friends are still out on their missions.

Oh and cool story about my mission: I had never been on a plane before (my parents are big on road trips). I was in the Managua, Nicaragua South mission. I lasted 3 months into my mission before realizing I could just request to go home. It took a while, and I had to remain adamant, but they finally let me go home. I ended up going home alone. So, not knowing the language in Nicaragua, I navigated the Managua airport (which is luckily small), the Miami airport, the Dallas/Fort Worth airport, and the Salt Lake airport on my own.

My companion was a dick, but that's another story.

Yep. You're definitely an adult now. Part of being an adult is realizing that you're not responsible for the happiness of other people, including your parents, and that you're in charge of your own life.

I'd be angry that they were not respecting my choices as an adult. Mormons are so good at proclaiming their right to practice their own brand of religion, as per Article of Faith # 11, but they aren't good at all when it comes to the second half of that Article, which gives others that same right.

It bugs me so much that they obviously have no respect for me and try to prevent me from making any of my own choices. But oh well. Hopefully distance and time will bring peace.

Well they just believe that they are right and all the doctrine of the LDS church supports that view. You know about Micah Wilder? He left his mission and his family left the church too because of that. You have made a tremendous stand here, it will be noticed and real good can come from it.

I have to also welcome you to the Forums. Your situation is so familiar. I too left my mission early, learned the truth, and left TSCC when I was 20. [It was quite a few years later before I made it official by requesting that my name be removed from their records.] I have no regrets about that decision.

The first few years were rough, but worth it. That was 37 years ago.

You're on the right path now.

One heck of a truthful supportive testimony William.

Once you get away from the rocky initial onset of your journey, the sailing gets a lot easier and smoother. Sometimes that crashing surf zone can be a real barrier, but its not insurmountable to those who try.

Wow SMALL WORLD!! My sis in law also went on a mission to Managua Nicaragua a few months ago and left early! I'm an ex Mormon (converted for my hubby (he was raised Mormon) then we both got out a few months later.. Anyways she left early too but it was because she was horribly sick for over a month and its still unknown what she caught from there! I know it's a big thing to leave a mission early, good for u for doing so!
